Colorguard is the fastest growing activity of the performing arts today. It combines the equipment, tools and training of out summer cologuard, takes place in gymnasiums or arenas and provides students and audiences an experience unlike anything else around.

It’s exciting, entertaining, innovative, crowd pleasing, award-winning, often brash and bold! It’s marching, spinning, twirling and swirling, complex maneuvering of bodies and equipment! It’s a touch of ballet, jazz, pop and modern dance, and the synchronized use of tall flags, rifles, short flags, explosion flags, double silks, fans, umbrellas, and balloons! It’s props, theatrical sets, scenery, gigantic dots of vinyl floor covering, and glittering costumes. It’s indoor pageantry at it’s finest!

Winterguard:

The indoor winterguard program is performed to recorded music or live music and features only visual equipment. This equipment includes flags, rifles, sabers, and various props and colorful elements. The equipment is combined with many elements of drill, body movement, and dance. The result is an emotional and visual portrayal of the music.

Winterguard programs use music chosen from all types of music including classical, alternative rock, spoken words or even silence. The winterguard activity constantly pushes visual arts to new heights of creativity.

What are the benefits to the performers?

The Leuzinger High School Colorguard is a youth organization dedicated to the development of self-esteem and self-reliance. It encourages team work, sportsmanship, civic pride and contributions of one's personal best to a group effort. These lessons are learned through a musical and marching activity in which there is a blending of the arts and athletics.

Colorguard is an activity which attempts to do much more than provide a performance opportunity for students or entertainment for an audience. Through the colorguard experience, students will learn useful life skills, leadership skills, goal setting, and conflict resolution skills among others. The curriculum includes opportunities for students to exercise their potential not only as performers, but as complete human beings.

Jesus Garcia - Choreographer, Visual Designer

As a former drum major, he later becomes guard instructor in his senior year of high school. He has a wealth of experience in the pageantry world as a performer and designer for many schools. In 1993 he becomes guard member of the Madison Scouts Drum & Bugle Corps. After completing a successful year he later auditions for The Cavaliers in 1994, which he made and performed with. Has instructed and designed for numerous schools in Los Angeles, Ca.  Rubidoux H.S., Centennial, La Quinta, Bonita, are some organizations where he has designed for. In 2001 becomes a member of the United Spirit Association guard staff which is known for camps in all of the west coast. Jesus was also rifle tech for West Coast Sound Drum & Bugle Corps. After having a successful year 2002, after watching one of our rehearsals, a movie scout selected Leuzinger H.S. guard to perform in and actually have a spot on popular television show: "Boston Public" which aired on Fox.

He is an excellent instructor. He has the ability to inspire students (all types) to perform and the quality of student work is consistently excellent. Equally important, his judgement is sound, mature, and appropriate.

Jesus is currently recording his first album, formed his band in 2003 and has traveled and performed in major events with major Latin artists of today. Performed in many television shows in L.A. to promote himself. Let's face it, when you got the music in you, it becomes part of your life. You can check his website at: www.LaSonoraDelCaribe.com.

Visit his website if you would like to know more of him and his music.
